Mexicoma

I'm back from my friends epic destination wedding in Oaxaca, Mexico and ready to dish. You know when you need a vacation from your vacation? This was one of those trips in the very best of ways. My friends, Emily and Nick, had a group of 60 of the coolest, most talented, funny, and clever friends and family present for their nuptials. It was also one of those experiences where you bond quickly with your fellow travel mates because you're together day in and day out for a week. 

To make a sweeping statement about the region, Oaxaca is know for their mole, mezcal, embroidery and black pottery. But honestly that is just the tip of the iceberg. The cultural is so rich and vibrant. I'm already plotting my next trip back.

The highlights of the trip, beyond the wedding, were the sights and experiences we had inside the city proper and in the outlaying villages. Which I'll delve into soon.

Oh and there was also a celeb spotting in Oaxaca. Not by me unfortunately, because that was the one time I decided to call it an early night. But the rest of the group bumped into Adrian Grenier at a dive bar. Apparently he was in town tasting mezcal.

Behind the Scenes

 

February's installment of 'Behind the Scenes' is a revisit with Marisa of The Crafty Fox. Her Etsy shop, The Woodland Wardrobe, just launched. Go shop your hearts out.

Marisa and I have been friends since our early twenties. Which was just a few years ago, obviously. The way we met is quite an interesting tale, but best saved for another time. Marisa is one of those people who make you jealous by their layers of talent. She's a brilliant artist, designer, turtle rescuer, and also a musician.

Collects  old books on fairy tales among many other things!

Admires  Squirrels. The way they can keep adapting to the crazy stuff humans do out there.. it's pretty amazing.

Daydreams  Ah… living in a little stone cottage, with a view of a darling little garden, with a cozy fireplace, a library room for all my books, and in the bathroom a large claw foot tub - preferably with Colin O'Donoghue soaking in it.

Guilty Pleasures  pizza & pie - my stomach is a bottomless pit for both

Weekend Pursuits  I don't really have weekends; everyday is just a day. But, on days I pull back, I do enjoy discovering a new town or falling down the rabbit hole of a new book.

Favorite Book  oh this is a toughie! For now I am going to name two "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain and "Peter Pan in Kensington Garden"s by J.M. Barrie… but really who can pick just one?!?!

Where I’d Rather Be  in that bathroom with the large occupied claw foot tub - hey, whoa, what now!

Nail Polish Du Jour  "Cerulean Rock" by Mineral fusion. It's a really pretty blue/green water nymphy color

The Smackdown

Come March 5th, and the series finale of Downton Abbey, I'll likely be in a puddle of tears. But last Sunday's episode made me want to throw confetti and pop a bottle of champagne when Lady Edith finally put Mary in her place.

Hip Hip

This might be difficult to fathom, but I may be more thrilled with scoring tickets to see Dita Von Teese than Beyoncé. The truth is I've been more entranced by the burlesque styling of Dita far longer than I've been smitten with Beyoncé. Plus, there's nothing like a smaller venue to build the fervor. It will be a spring of epic performances, with Dita in April and Beyoncé and May.

The Sprinkle

I'm back from Oaxaca and still digesting the experience. But might I just share how much more tolerable the lengthy flight was made by this carry on cocktail kit.
