Blogger Book Club (Nov. & Dec.) - Not That Kind of Girl

For the fourth installment of Blogger Book Club we read Lena Dunham's scandalous, 'Not That Kind of Girl'. Dunham's essays certainly created polarizing opinions, even before they went to print. From the seemingly outrageous book advance, to the hot button topics touched upon in her essays, everyone seems to have an intense opinion about Lena.

Lena has certainly made feminism fun again, there's no doubt. Not since the Riot Grrrl movement of the 90's has feminism been embraced by the younger generation.

It didn't hurt that a few of the essays from Dunham's book were read by the woman herself at a book reading I attended in Seattle. What a way to jump into a book.

I had been an admirer of Amy's blog content and blog design prior to meeting her last January at Alt Summit. We were destined to be friends when we ended up at the Furbish hosted dinner at Cafe Niche together at Alt. We share an affinity for malachite and her taste is superb!

Favorite Book  So hard to say. I was an English Major, so it really depends on my mood....Austen, Trollop, Wharton, Chaucer, Tolkien, Capote, you name it, I love it. But the reincarnation thriller, "Green Darkness" by Anya Seton is a special one to me, and totally underrated. I read it when I was pretty young...and it's no Pulitzer Prize winner...but there is something about it that makes me re-read it at least once a year. Historical Fiction is my thing.

Just Do It!

The clever Girls with Glasses created a re-gifting parody to the tune of "Last Christmas". My thoughts on the matter, just do it! If you think someone else would enjoy the gift more then you, then why on earth not, pass it along.

Travel On

It's that time of year when I start contemplating trips taken during the previous twelve months and look ahead towards future travel. 

Last January I traveled to Salt Lake City, for what is turning into my annual visit to Utah, to attend Alt Summit. In March I flew to Los Angeles for a girls weekend of epic proportions. Finally, a road trip to Cannon Beach took place in August with the same gaggle of girls from LA. It's unfortunate that I didn't visit any new states this particular year, but now I'm even more motivated to do so next year.

January: Salt Lake City, UT

March: Los Angeles, GA

July: Cannon Beach, OR

As always, one of my perpetual New Year's resolutions is to travel more. I think I've started out on the right track with two trips already on the books for the next two months. In January I'll be attending Alt Summit once again. In February it's another trip to my Southern home, Savannah. A visit to a new state is taking place this summer with a trip to Austin on the books for June. Finally, in an ideal world I'd love to take a road trip from San Diego to Savannah at some point during the summer months. Beyond that, we shall see.

June: Austin, TX

Who knows where else I'll venture, but hopefully some thrilling new adventures are on the horizon.
