This week of all weeks makes me so grateful to call this beautiful gem home.
I grew up on a tiny island in Washington State, which is part of the San Juan Islands archipelago. There is no bridge, so we rely on a petite (20 vehicle) ferry for transport to the mainland, or "town" as the locals refer to it. The Island possesses an elementary school, post office, library, church, a tiny grocery store, and two restaurants. Similar in size to manhattan, the island is nine miles long and two miles wide, though possesses a slightly lower population. When I was growing up there were 400 residents, now there's about 1,000.
