Our second installment of Blogger Book Club went in a completely different direction than than the first. "Crazy Rich Asians" was definitely the quintessential cotton candy read one craves during the summer months. It literally accompanied me to the sandy beaches of the Oregon coast and felt like a summer fling that I was sad to see end.
Let me set the scene...
"When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor. On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers."
Once I started this book I was all in. It was very soap opera-esque in the very best of ways.
Do tell, what did you think?
According to the Amazon review, "Sophia Amoruso turned her hobby selling vintage clothing on eBay into Nasty Gal, one of the fastest growing companies in America. Her rise has been covered by major media like The New York Times, Forbes, Fortune, Inc., and The Wall Street Journal. #GIRLBOSS is deeply personal, yet universal. Filled with brazen wake-up calls, cunning and frank observations, and plenty of behind-the scenes stories from Nasty Gal's meteoric rise, #GIRLBOSS covers a lot of ground. It proves that being successful isn't about where you went to college (if you went to college) or how popular you were in high school. Rather, success is about trusting your instincts and following your gut, knowing which rules to follow and which to break."
To entice you into participating in September and October's read, I thought I'd lure you once again with a giveaway. This time a Raku "#" from Life Styled seemed apropos.
