Fairly recently I finished Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns and Mad About The Boy. Both were delightful reads and felt like reuniting with long lost friends. Today we had an unexpected snow day; which always gives me the desire to indulge in a lengthy read under the duvet.
In Helen Fielding's Mad About the Boy we're reunited with Bridget Jones at age 51 and (SPOILER ALERT) a widow. Though Mark Darcy does make the occasional appearance via flashbacks. Bridget is struggling to care for her two young children and still make time to write a screenplay while dating a twenty something met via Twitter. Yes, Bridget has discovered Twitter (@jonesyBJ). Humorous, sharp and still relatable with her Bridgetesque mishaps and faux pas. I'll leave you with the fact that naughty Daniel Cleaver has a few cameos in Mad About The Boy.
Author Lauren Weisberger revisits her characters from The Devil Wears Prada, 10 years later in her latest novel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. Yes, ice queen Miranda Priestly is a presence, though to a lesser degree. Now, just as Andy seems to have it all, living the NYC dream with a thriving career as editor of her own magazine, an adoring husband, and Emily (Andy’s former arch nemesis) as current best friend, cracks start to appear in the facade. This novel dragged on a tad in bits and naturally ends up wrapped up with a pretty chick lit bow. I still ultimately found it a worthwhile way to while away the hours.
So if you're looking for a light read to have on hand for future snow days, consider either Mad About The Boy or Revenge Wears Prada.
