Confetti style

A friend and I headed down to Seattle on Wednesday. What a luxury to get out of town midweek, if only for a night. Our destination was to see Coldplay at the Key Arena. Being used to small venue "shows", I was unprepared for Coldplay's state of the art production that rivaled a Broadway performance. The effects started straightaway during "Hurts Like Heaven", when wristbands given to the audience upon entering the venue began to flash. From then on whenever the band crooned certain songs the wristbands would light up. Then came the confetti, which was blown all over the stadium. During "Major Minus," a cascade of beach balls followed. There was even a moment during the encore when Chris Martin appeared at the back of the arena near the cheap seats and sang "Us Against the World". Alas, no Gwenyth sightings. We stayed the night at the hipsterest of hotels, Ace Hotel, in Belltown. Our night began with happy hour at Local 360, followed by dinner at an Italian restaurant, post show drinks were imbibed at Tini Bigs, then we grabbed pizza in the wee hours at Belltown Pizza. The next morning it was up at the crack of dawn, breakfast at Macrina Bakery, then back home to the island. A brief, but delightful, 24 hours out of dodge.

Tiptoe through the...

Got out of dodge on Sunday and drove up Chuckanut Drive to the Skagit Valley Tulip festival. Everyone was out in droves, as was expected. Not only were the tulip fields a sublime haze or color, but temperatures reached the 70's. Now that's what I'm talking about!

Siriously?

I've never been inclined to utilize Siri on my iPhone, but after watching Zooey I think I'm a convert. A dance party and tomato soup on a rainy day? Yes, please!

Glamping

Saw a charming British film last weekend, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Featuring an array of British favorites including: Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor and Kristin Scott Thomas. Directed by the illustrious Lasse Hallstrom. The title clues you in to the premise, "Britain's leading fisheries expert (Ewan McGregor) is approached by a consultant (Emily Blunt) to help realize a sheikh's (Amr Waked) vision of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to the desert and embarks on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible possible." If your interest is piqued, head to the theaters immediately to catch this gem of a film before it leaves town. I'm eager to get my hands on a copy of the book by the same name.

To celebrate their spring campaign featuring Florence Broadhurst's designs, Kate Spade launched Kate Spade NY radio station on Pandora. The station features songs from indie rock bands, handpicked by one of their music-loving staffers. Great background music for a Monday.
