Leaving on a jet plane...

...bound for Savannah. Where I'll be spending a blissful 12 days: soaking up the sunshine (mid 70 - mid 80 degree temperatures), hitting up all my favorite haunts, back to back catch up sessions with friends, cocktails upon cocktails to be imbibed (it is Savannah after all), between 15-20 films to view (is it wrong I'm most excited for the screening of Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston?), a much needed haircut at Salon Aqua (just in time before my stylist goes on maternity leave), sweet tea and calamari from the cafe at Forsyth Park, a drive out to Tybee, celebs to spot (Isabella Rossellini!), parties to put in an appearance at, a Jewish Food Festival not to miss (Potato Latkes, Apple Strudel, Fresh Challah, Bagels and Cream Cheese with Lox), a bit of shopping, an oyster roast, Cupcake Happy Hour and Bingo at Back in the Day Bakery, and...

They always have peacocks, these sorts of people.

There's always those handful of songs that whenever played put you in the best of moods. This being one of the songs in my handful. I can't help hitting repeat.

It's no secret, upon entering my current abode, that I'm a fan of peacocks. I adore peacock imagery in all forms, even when their likeness is deconstructed and barely evident. On a trip to Disney World last May we stayed at the Hilton, which was connected to the neighboring hotel The Waldorf Astoria. This Waldorf Astoria happens to be the only other Waldorf aside from the original in NYC. Why they selected Orlando for a second venue, I'll never know. We made our way over to the Waldorf for breakfast one morning, traipsing through the bar on our way to our poolside table. What appeared before me on the floor of the bar, thrilled me to no end. A peacock carpet as far as the eye can see. Have you ever? And thus begins the sharing of my obsession with peacocks and the oftentime odd places I've managed to discover their likeness.

While living in Savannah, my favorite room in the spacious (plus side) 4th floor walk up (down side) apartment in the historic district would have to have been my bedroom. There was something about the natural light from the generous windows compounded with the astounding view of the treetops and the rooftops of surrounding historic buildings that helped to create a serene environment. All of the furniture in this room was purchased from businesses in Savannah, antique shops and home decor boutiques. One of my most beloved, yet inexpensive pieces, is the telephone desk I used as a nightstand. Taking something outdated and re-purposing it as something useful is extremely gratifying. The tiny accompanying chair served its own purpose in the bathroom as a place to set magazines or pile towels. The NO-OP fireplace (which you only get a hint of) was another element I adored about the room. There's just something about the use of a mantle, as a place to perch art or a mirror, that really completes a room and becomes a great focal point. I packed the interior of the fireplace with pillar candles to add another source of light when called for. The lingerie chest set between the two windows is another favorite piece of mine. It was actually part of a set that was broken up by the current seller. There is a time and place for a matching set of furniture, but in this instance I chose to just stick with this one statement piece from the set. The room was already painted green when I moved in, at first unsure of whether to keep it, I grew to quite like it actually.

That's how they do it

 

August found me the bridesmaid in one of my dearest and oldest friends (30 years!) wedding. The wedding took place at an organic farm on Bainbridge island, a destination wedding of sorts. After the rehearsal dinner we all caravaned onto a sunset ferry ride to the island.

  

The bride was very nonspecific about our attire, the only stipulation being that we come adorned in jewel tones. We bridesmaids did oblige.

 

Highlights from the wedding: croquet, margaritas + mojitos, a ukulele leading the procession, ceviche shooters, a band unlike any other, dapper guests, Mexican coke, a dashing French waiter generous with the complements, a hairstylist imported from a salon in Seattle, hazelnut chocolate cake, and oodles of love. Cut to two weeks later when the couple jetted off to Istanbul (not Constantinople) for their honeymoon.
