"Never smile at a crocodile"

My adoration of all things croc[odile] and [alli]gator is alive and well. Living in the Low Country, where one can encounter an alligator at your back door (depending on what part of town you reside in), one can't help but acquire a deeper interest in these awe inspiring creatures. Here's a smattering of croc + gator items I'm currently obsessing over. [Karen Elson in British Vogue, shot by Tim Walker.]

 

 

 

1. The croc item I'm most coveting, yet likely will never obtain, are a pair of Jimmy Choo's Croc Hunter Boots. "The legendary Hunter wellington has been embossed with signature Jimmy Choo crocodile print. The leopard print lining, gold buckle hardware and metal rivets provide a contrast against the black glossy rubber of the Hunter boot."

 

2. I received this L'Objet Croc Candle as a Birthday gift from my boss several years ago. Of course it's all about the spectacular container that the candle resides in, but the scent of the champagne candle itself is also quite appealing. "Encapsulated in a black, textured vessel created from fine Limoges porcelain, this unique candle exudes a gently intoxicating aroma of pink champagne. A spirited crocodile perches atop its lid."

 

3. A yet to be opened packageof Alexa Pulitzer's Gator Stationary is currently residing in my secretary desk. It's just too good to part with. "Alexa Pulitzer is recognized around the world for her stationary. Her repertoire is vast and her papers are stocked in boutiques as far away as Tokyo, London and Toronto. Alexa's Italian heritage and her new found home of New Orleans, inspires her designs in creating original and gorgeous paper collections."

   

4. Designer Gogo Ferguson makes numerous pieces of spectacular jewelry out of gator bones, which she casts in gold in silver. Of her gator jewelry, I find the the scute to be the most appealing, whether they be in earrings, cuff links, or bracelet form. "I grew up spending a lot of time on Cumberland Island. My grandmother, with her love of nature, inspired me to see the classical designs in shells, plants and yes even BONES! It is through this education I have labored in creating a line of jewelry that at its best is simple, sophisticated and stylish", states Gogo.

 

5. My most recent croc acquisition is a Graphic Image Travel Wallet, which doubles as a clutch at times. Save 2nd base

  

On Saturday morning I participated in Savannah's own Susan G. Komen 5k Race for the Cure, in honor of my boss, a 7 year breast cancer survivor. Soreness and exhaustion from rising at 5am aside, this was an incredibly inspirational and emotional event to participate in. It was made more significant to me knowing my bosses harrowing story of survival. Even if you don't know someone personally who has experienced breast cancer, it's still an important cause to seek out and participate in, wherever you might live. Plus, do you really want to miss out on a chance to sport one of these witty tees? I'd think not. "When you walk in purpose - you collide with destiny", Dr. Bertice Berry.

Maybe baby

  

While my friend Michele is in the midst of labor, I thought I'd reminisce about her swanky baby shower that took place last month. It was one of the most hip baby showers that I'd ever attended. The shower was held at a stylish abode in Ardsley Park owned by two gay men with the same moniker (so Savannah). The fireplace was crackling away, even though it was warm enough to keep the french doors wide open. Talk about decadent. Let me set the scene: balloons as far as the eye could see, a cowboy hat piñata filled to the brim with candy and airplane alcohol, drinking games out of baby bottles, a cookie cake AND an ice cream cake, a man in Versace circa Gianni, gifts galore, and an over the moon Mama to be. The signature cocktail was the margarita and the cuisine was Cuban. There were plantains and pork aplenty. The well stocked bar kept everyone content, not matter what your drink of choice. Wish you were there?

 

The lights went out in Georgia,

when the legendary Dixie Carter died on Saturday. Carter played Julia Sugarbaker, the elegant owner of Sugarbaker Design (an interior design firm set in Atlanta), on Designing Women, a show I watched avidly. Julia was sassy, strong, and above all else Southern. When a customer, at the shop in Savannah I used to work as a buyer for, stated that we were Savannah's own Designing Women, I took that as the highest of compliments.

How very!

When I heard that someone was spoofing Mary Kate Olson in a new web series, I knew it would be right up my alley. Elaine Carroll - who created the series Very Mary Kate, and stars as MK (as well as her sister) - is thoroughly delightful. I can't get enough of the hilarity.
