Wright time, wright place

Was invited to dine at Sol with S, her husband, and her friend R who is assisting with the casting for the Robert Redford movie, The Conspirator, which is set to be filmed in Savannah at the end of October. The period drama is based on the true events following the assassination of President Lincoln and revolves around the story of Mary Surratt, the only woman among a group charged with conspiring to kill the president. R brought along the art director for the film to dinner. Both men were a delight. They imparted all sorts of interesting tidbits about the film, which I wont divulge here. They confirmed rumors about which house was selected to be Mary's. It's located just a mere block away from my apartment. Robin Wright Penn has been cast in the roll of Mary. While the other lead, Frederick Aiken, Surratt's lawyer, will be portrayed by James McAvoy. The art director told me that that I reminded him of Surrat's daughter Anna. He asked if I'd submitted photographs yet to casting. I told him I hadn't. But after the evening was over I started mulling over the idea. The evening was one of those random Savannah occurrences where you never know who you'll be introduced to and what will come of it.

Kiss and tell

                                       

Back in May I twittered (twitted?) about my refrigerator breaking. "Is it odd that when I found out my fridge broke what I was most worried about perishing is inedible? A tube of discontinued Chanel lipstick." The shade, metal garnet, was discontinued several years ago. I'd been storing my spare tube in the refrigerator, having heard this prolongs the shelf life of makeup. I then received a message from @ThreeCustom with a link to the Three Custom website. Here's what they're all about: "stop searching for "something close" to your cherished shades - we can produce discontinued shades for the Lips, Cheeks, Eyes & Face or help you create your own from scratch! All formulas remain in our personal files for easy re-ordering." Hallelujah. No breaking down in sobs when I use up my last tube of metal garnet. I checked and my shade is already in their system. So there, Chanel.

Summer lovin, had me a blast!

 

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu, summer! Here's a supplementary video to the film 500 Days of Summer, and with that I bid a bittersweet "till next year", to summer.

She's a gem

Last night Ruby Gettinger, of the Style Network's Ruby, kicked off her book tour right here in Savannah at Barnes & Noble. Not only was Ruby there, but the entire "cast" of the show, local celebrities in their own right. I always thought that the notion of the camera adding 10lbs was rubbish, until I saw Georgia. She's a tiny thing. Not to mention Ruby, who'd slimmed down since I saw her filming on my street earlier in the year. Ruby spoke for about 20 minutes and took questions before the signing began. Cue a slew of emotional personal weight loss stories by members of the audience. The entire "event" was being filmed by a camera crew from Gay Rosenthal Productions and E! Entertainment. There are several men on that camera crew who are REALLY fetching. Unfortunately the whole evening was very disorganized. We arrived at 6:30pm and were still waiting to get our books signed by 9:30pm. Everyone wanted to have a personal "moment" with Ruby, which meant a LOT of waiting for the line to move at a snails pace. We debating the merits of leaving, but you reach a certain point where it becomes more about the experience of the evening, rather than just the signature. Then about 30 minutes before the store was set to close Ruby's "bodyguard", an army ranger, yells at everyone to get into a single file line and open our book to the page we want signed. Talk about a 180. Suddenly they're all about efficiency. I truly have never attended an event so poorly executed. That's Savannah for you. Not that it wasn't worth the wait in the end. Ruby's adorable and my little sister is going to be thrilled with a signed copy of her book.
