June 21st - Staff dinner at the new restaurant Local 11 Ten. The restaurant was designed by the husband and wife design team at Re:think Design Studio . The building the restaurant is housed in used to be a bank and the designers successfully incorporation the safe and other elements into the restaurant. The food was superb. Although the wait staff needed some scolding. Our waiter successfully snatched my drink away before I was done. Luckily, I cut him off before he could pull my plate away when I clearly was not finished. Our boss ended up treating everyone to the meal. Which was very generous as there was ten of us. And oh the champagne...
June 26th - Went to the preview party at the Jepson Museum (where I used to work) for the Marcus Kenney exhibit with L and M. Free alcohol, free food, art, and men in seersucker, sum things up.
June 27th - Book signing at E. Shaver, again with L and M. The Lee Brothers
were signing their new cookbook, The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook. Those boys are cute, especially the married one. They brought along some boiled peanuts from their catalog. I went ahead and tried boiled peanuts for the second time after loathing them wholeheartedly the first time I tried them last December in Charleston. This time I quite liked them and now am a fan.
June 30th - Went to see Roman Holiday on the big screen at SCAD's Lucas Theatre with L. Had a root beer float and a b.l.t. beforehand at Leopold's. After the movie finished everyone clapped. I love those rare moments after a movie ends when people collectively have enjoyed themselves so thoroughly that they break out in applause.
July 4th - Had to work. But lucky I did, because Robert Duffy (of Marc Jacobs) came into the shop to buy some furniture, Diptyque and L'Occitane (among other things) for his new dwelling on Monterey Square. He asked if the owner could do better on a pair of antique chairs. After the owner gave an okay on the discount, as a thank you Robert said to tell her that she can have 30% off anything in his store (Marc Jaocbs). Thinking quickly I said, "what about her employees who facilitated the discount for you?" He said "sure, you get 30% off too". That alone so made up for working a holiday. We closed the shop early then I went to watch fireworks and drink cocktails with L and M on my hairstylists roof.
July 9th - Had the day off, so went to see the movie Evening with S and K, from work. I quite liked it, despite many peoples disdain for it. The costumes, the location, the dancing...
July 22nd - Went to see the play Footloose done as a musical at the Lucas Theatre with P. Had lunch at Soho South Cafe beforehand. Their salmon b.l.t. is TDF. The acting was alright, but I'm always a sucker for a musical.
July 27th-August 5th - Flew home to Washington for the second time since moving to Savannah in December. Spent the first few days in Washington in Seattle. Went to a Mariner's game, went shopping, went eating, and got the best blowout ever. Then spent the rest of my visit on the island. Where a few monumental events occurred. One was reconciling with my oldest friend who I hadn't spoken to since we had a falling out the previous November. All is resolved but not forgotten. Then, unbeknownst to me this would also be the last time I would see my Grandfather, as he ended up passing away in September....
