A representative from the fragrance line Bond No. 9 recently got in touch with me to let me know about the launch of the new Bond No. 9 website. She also generously offered to send samples of several of their scents.
Thrilled with this trend of cosmetic and fragrance companies offering gifts I quickly emailed off my address. I must admit I was extremely eager for my package of samples to arrive. The samples were packaged beautifully, like miniature versions of Bond No. 9 Bon Bons. I was gifted samples of their latest scent, Fire Island ("imagine freshly bathed skin, doused with a coating of premium Euro sunscreen then warmed up by a midday siesta on the beach"), and Scent of Peace. Both smell divine.
"The Bond No. 9 collection–26 women’s, men’s, and unisex eaux de parfum--has a dual mission: To restore artistry to perfumery, and to mark every New York neighborhood with a scent of its own. Each fragrance represents a specific downtown, midtown, or uptown locale or a city-wide sensibility. With new introductions in the coming seasons, Bond No. 9 will infuse the island of Manhattan with scents. Bond No. 9 was conceived and created at 9 Bond Street, a landmark Second Empire cast iron building on an old fashioned cobblestone street in NoHo. Bond No. 9 debuted in 2003. Bond No. 9 restores the grand art of perfume blending, using only high, 18-20 percent concentrations of pure eaux de parfumes - the longlasting concentrations of the legendary vintage scents of the 1920s and 1930s."
The Bond No. 9 fragrances smell sensational but the bottles themselves deserve mention as well. Not only are the perfume bottles gorgeous but they're also refillable. Bond No. 9's bottles, while decidedly upscale, are ecologically sound and refillable.
Bond No. 9 also offers an array of scented candles. Included with the candles is a lovely gilt metal cap to ensure that the scent doesn't fade when not lit. Each glass container displays a stylized version of the late, lamented New York City subway token.
With the debut of Bond No. 9's website fans of the line can now purchase fragrances from the ease of their own home and have the fragrances delivered to their doorstep. I insist you take a few moments to peruse the new website. I have found it easy to navigate and it is visually fun and playful.
Currently on my Bond No. 9 wish list (in case anyone is curious): a bottle of Chinatown, a Chelsea Flowers scented candle and a box of Bon Bons. The Bon Bon box includes 18 of Bond No. 9's pocket sized bottles of perfume. The miniature bottles are wrapped like candies in foil. They are the perfect size for travel. Christmas is right around the corner, perhaps one of these items will end up under my tree.
