"Whether you’re looking for a date in Los Angeles, a business networking partner in Tokyo, or just someone to share a cab from Kennedy to Midtown, look no further. You’ve found AirTroductions™."
I first learned about AirTroductions while watching an episode of Lisa Loeb's #1 Single. AirTroductions is a friends/dating/networking site that matches you up with fellow AirTroductions members who will be on your same flight. Interesting concept, no? AirTroductions works like this: "You buy your ticket as usual, then go to AirTroductions, log in and create a profile, complete with a description of yourself, preferred airport, photo and your response to the "I'm more comfortable with…" by checking off any number of choices such as Prada, Vodka Martini, The Emergency Exit Row, the W Hotel, Diet Soda, First Class, the Vegetarian Meal, etc. Then are encouraged to say what kind of person you would like to sit next to. You are then notified of other members booked on the same flight. You're given the option of sending an Email through the site (at which point a $5 fee kicks in) to determine whether you want to meet the person you're most interested in at the airport, and, if mutually acceptable, get reassigned to adjoining seats. Note: one of the options is: someone who won't talk to me at all (I just want to read/sleep/work)." For now, the most popular routes include New York-LA, New York-London, Los Angeles-Sydney, New York-Tokyo. As intriguing as this concept sounds things could possibly get awkward if you get seated next to someone you end up disliking. I'd consider this for a shortish flight, two hours max. The site made its debut in the fall of 2005 and currently has about 8,000 members. [Theresa perhaps this is something you'd like to look into for your upcoming flights, wouldn't it make for an interesting post?]
